RenoQuantix Calculator

Gravel Calculator

Estimate gravel volume and weight from area, depth, material density, and extra allowance.

Calculator units

Example values are prefilled. Replace them with your project measurements; results update automatically as you edit.

Step 1

How do you want to enter the area?

Use length and width, or enter a known area directly.

Step 2

Measure the area

Measure the length and width of the area that will receive gravel.

Step 3

Enter gravel depth

Use the compacted finished depth you are planning.

Step 4

Choose a gravel density

Preset densities are planning estimates. Use your supplier's actual density when available because moisture and material grading change weight.

How it works

How this calculation works

Enter area and finished depth, then select a density preset or enter the supplier density.

RenoQuantix calculates volume first, then converts volume to weight using density.

The selected extra allowance is applied before the purchase recommendation is rounded upward.

Assumptions

What this estimate assumes

  • Density varies by stone type, grading, moisture, and supplier.
  • US short tons and metric tonnes are different units and are shown separately.
  • Compaction and subgrade conditions can change how much material is actually needed.

Example

Example: a 20 ft × 10 ft gravel area

For a 200 sq ft area at 3 in deep, RenoQuantix calculates volume, applies the extra allowance, then converts that volume to weight using the selected density.

Practical tips

Before you buy

  • Use your supplier density when available.
  • Confirm whether your supplier sells by weight or volume.
  • For compacted bases, verify the required compacted depth and material specification before ordering.

Calculator limits

Use the result as a planning estimate

RenoQuantix turns the measurements and product information you provide into a material estimate. Product specifications, local requirements, installation methods, site conditions, and measurement error can change the final amount you need.

When the project affects structure, safety, code compliance, or regulated work, confirm those requirements separately.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need a density value?

Volume alone does not determine weight. Different gravel materials can have different mass for the same volume.

What is the difference between a US ton and a metric tonne?

A US short ton is 2,000 lb, while a metric tonne is 1,000 kg. RenoQuantix keeps them separate.

Does the calculator account for compaction?

Only through the dimensions and extra allowance you enter. It does not automatically apply a universal compaction factor.
