RenoQuantix Calculator

Drywall Calculator

Estimate how many drywall sheets to buy for room walls, with an optional ceiling.

Calculator units

Example values are prefilled. Replace them with your project measurements; results update automatically as you edit.

Step 1

Measure the room

Enter the room length, width, and wall height.

Step 2

Subtract doors and windows

Use the usual opening sizes or replace them with your measurements.

Step 3

Choose a sheet size

Use the actual sheet size you plan to buy.

Optional price

Use your local sheet price

The calculator never guesses local drywall prices.

How it works

How this calculation works

Enter room length, width, wall height, and whether the ceiling is included.

Door and window areas are subtracted before the waste allowance is applied.

The required area is divided by the sheet area and rounded up to whole sheets.

Assumptions

What this estimate assumes

  • The sheet count is an area-based planning estimate, not a panel-layout drawing.
  • Screw, tape, and compound quantities are rough secondary estimates.
  • Framing spacing, finishing level, fire ratings, and local rules can change material requirements.

Example

Example: a bedroom with ceiling

For a 12 ft × 10 ft room with 8 ft walls, one door, two windows, a ceiling, 4 ft × 8 ft sheets, and 10% waste, RenoQuantix calculates net board area and whole sheets.

Practical tips

Before you buy

  • Use the actual board size you plan to purchase.
  • Large sheets can reduce joints but may be harder to move and install.
  • For moisture, fire, or sound requirements, choose the correct board type separately.

Calculator limits

Use the result as a planning estimate

RenoQuantix turns the measurements and product information you provide into a material estimate. Product specifications, local requirements, installation methods, site conditions, and measurement error can change the final amount you need.

When the project affects structure, safety, code compliance, or regulated work, confirm those requirements separately.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are screws and compound exact quantities?

No. They are rough planning figures because framing layout and finish level affect usage.

Can I include the ceiling?

Yes. Use the ceiling option when the same project includes the room ceiling.

Does the calculator know stud spacing?

No. V1 estimates sheet quantity by surface area rather than generating a framing-specific layout.
